Private Super-Jeep - The Frozen West and Into the Glacier

The day commences with an adventurous drive along the dramatic highland road, leading to the remote and haunting Kaldidalur valley, and ultimately to the Langjökull glacier. En route, we pass by Þingvellir, without stopping, before departing from the paved road onto mountainous terrain. As we traverse past the scenic Sandkluftavatn lake, we arrive at Húsafell, offering an opportunity to grab a bite to eat or explore the charming birch "forest."

Next, our journey takes us to the Langjökull glacier, Iceland's second-largest. We'll guide you to the tunnel entrance of "Into the Glacier," one of only four man-made ice tunnels in the world. You have a chance to venture (optional at extra cost) deep beneath the glacier's surface, encounter mesmerizing blue ice formations and experience the sheer magic of being inside this icy wonderland.

Continuing our exploration, we head towards Borgarfjörður, where the enchanting Hraunfossar lava waterfalls await. These cascades emerge from rivulets streaming out of Hallmundarhraun, creating a captivating spectacle. Nearby, the tragic tale of Barnafoss adds depth to the visit. Our journey then leads us to historic Reykholt, the home of Iceland's renowned saga writer, Snorri Sturluson. Here, you can visit Snorralaug, a historic hot spring believed to be one of Iceland's oldest handmade structures.

From Reykholt, we commence our return journey to Reykjavík, passing by Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful geothermal spring. While most of its water serves as a source of central heating for nearby towns, it's also home to a rare fern species, Blechnum Spicant, found nowhere else in Iceland. Continuing our tour, we reach Hvalfjörður, or Whale Fjord, known for its controversial history of whaling. Finally, we return to Reykjavik in the late afternoon, concluding a day filled with adventure, history, and natural wonders.
